Current Scottish Music

While much of the UK's music charts are chock-full of the same celebs that populate ours (Adele, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Rihanna), there are still many current artists that are huge in Scotland (and the rest of Britain) but have not crossed over to mainstream American listeners. Here are a few of those Scottish artists from the last couple of years.

BTW, if you are curious what's big in Scotland right now, here is the current hit singles chart

CHVCHES

Probably the most well-known to us Yanks of the current Scottish bands. Based out of Glasgow (the center of Scotland's music scene), this is their biggest hit so far, "The Mother We Share." and "The Clearest Blue"

Django Django

A British band who is making a huge impact on the Scottish music scene, and is starting to break in the US. Here is "Beginning to Fade," from 2015. It's one my favorites of the songs on this post.

Biffy Clyro
One of the biggest alt-rock bands in the UK, this Glasgow band has had several #1 singles and albums on the Scottish and UK charts (although only a few minor hits here in the US). Here is one of their more recent hits, "Many of Horror."

White

This Glasgow band became the hottest new Scottish band in 2015. This was their debut hit, "Future Pleasures."

We Were Promised Jet Packs

From Edinburgh, they began in 2003, but only recently have broken through. He is a recent song, "As Part of It":

Admiral Fallow

Another Glasgow-based band. They describe themselves as "indie chamber-folk." Here is the catchy "Squealing Pigs."

Withered Hand
The stage name of London-born Dan Willson, who is now based out of Edinburgh. The below video for his "King of Hollywood" was filmed in Glasgow.

Mogwai

Although not a new group (they formed in Glasgow in 1995), the band is still releasing vital albums and is a mover and shaker on the Scottish music scene. Here is one their newest.
